Let’s start the post today by me begging to see if anyone would like host a theme one week or more. I have been emailing people, but I am sure there are some of you out there that would love an opportunity to host, or host again. Please don’t be shy. I can’t come up with themes on my own every two weeks. At the rate we are going I will have to do nearly all of them, and I want to share this. So please if you have any interest, let me know. It is very easy to do. Details at the end of the post.
Since it isn’t a theme this week I decided to do some boats and ones that I have seen on the three trips I’ve had there. That doesn’t mean there are lots of boats there, well no more than usual, I just like to photograph them.
Maybe boats could be a theme one week, who knows. Let me put a pin in that.
These are from 2016, 2017 and finally 2024. They were all boats we saw as we were driving, walking or in another boat, the case for the last one. One of the things I like about monochrome is seeing how images convert. I tried some other images of other things today and they just didn’t work. An image needs quite a bit of contrast to really work in monochrome. If it doesn’t have that, then it all looks the same and nothing stands out. I really hope when you look at these that you can tell the boats really stand out. That was what I was going for.
Fun fact, if you photograph red and green together they come out as the same tone most times.
Another thing a black and white image should have is a black and a white. It should have both and then lots of shades in between. I hope that helps anyone trying to work out how to do conversions and what will work and what won’t. Contrast is the key.
Details about the next theme are after the gallery and here are my photos for this week.
Next week is another theme, and Monochrome Madness #29 is being hosted by Brian from Bushboy’s World. He has decided to do CHAIR or CHAIRS. Should be an interesting one.
Participating in Monochrome Madness
If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then I can use the reader to see what you post.
You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to my monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.
Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. We have also included a list of themes that will be coming in the future so if you want to be able to plan ahead you can. They aren’t in order, but will happen. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.
Also if you would like to host one week or more, let me know.
hello leanne,
wonderful and great pictures you have made for the challenge, i like them very much especially the first, second and fourth picture.
here is my contribution to the theme, https://wp.me/pfnz9O-Dg.
many greetings robert
Thank you Robert, glad you liked them.
I edit my blog pictures in my phone. I cannot find the monochrome feature. The last time I did this, I was still using an analog DSLR with B/W film.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures.
Sorry, I can’t really help you, I don’t really know how to do that. If I take photos with my phone I put them on my laptop if I want to edit them.
Thank you.
Good
Thank you.
how cool that would be
Very, thanks Beth.
I like your boats! Especially that first battered working boat…
Thank you Penny, that boat is in the boat graveyard, which is sad.
well that is sad — but the image is still striking
It is, but if it wasn’t then it would look very pristine and maybe not as interesting to photograph. Maybe.
a bit like my phot of the “boom boat” during my freighter trip among the Discovery Islands off our coast — very battered and therefore fascinating — also still in service, that one
I love battered boats, like I love photographing fishing boats, they are amazing.
a bit of a jump, but same theme: a TV makeup artist once told me working on young people bored her, because their faces didn’t yet tell any stories, whereas old people? every line a story
I think I would agree with that, old faces tell stories.
Nice post

Thank you Satyam.
Welcome
dear freind
Such evocative boat scenes!
Here is my free theme: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2025/02/25/the-early-bee-gets-the-pollen/
