It was back to those honeycomb rocks today for my Monochrome Wednesday images. I really like ocean views in monochrome.
Monochrome Wednesday – Honeycomb rocks
The photos today are from my trip down the Great Ocean Road back in August. It was one of the best trips I’ve ever had away and I really want to go again.
I have started realising that ocean scenes can be really good in monochrome. So today I couldn’t help myself and I have done two images.
The first one you have seen before, I did it in colour but thought it would be interesting to do it in monochrome as well.
This was perhaps one of my favourite images from the trip. I almost lost all my gear getting it when a wave came in a little too fast and high.
The next image is of the same rocks but taken from the other side of them. They were so interesting the way they just sat there on the beach. They do look like chunks of honeycomb, don’t you think? We nicknamed this place Honeycomb Bay.
Not sure which one I like best.
Both images are long exposures. They were done so the exposure wasn’t too long to get the movement of the water. I was using the Formatt Hitech 10 stop filter and .9 soft grad. It was the first real test for Winston, my 3 Legged Thing tripod.

I like this challenge and it is nice to be thinking in monochrome again.
Really nice shots, Leanne. That stormy weather, at least it looks that way, really added to the surreal quality of the photos. I must agree, the monochrome really adds another mysterious feeling to the photos. And your longer exposure just builds that feeling. Yes, beautiful shots. You really have a great talent.

Oh gosh, Leanne–I thought these were tiny little rocks that you had taken with macro. Then I saw them on the beach–they’re huge! Very nicely done.
No, not tiny, they are rather large, but I like that. Thank you Lois.
