No flowers today

It is a sad day in our house today and I’m sorry to say there will be no flowers. We were given bad news about Tiddles today.

We took our beautiful boy to the vets today because he seemed to be struggling to breathe. He was and after an x-ray they discovered a huge mass in his chest that is crushing his heart and bent his windpipe. They don’t know what it is, but since he is over 17 years old we have made the decision to euthanise him.

We have brought him home for now, but the vet is coming on Monday afternoon to do it and then he will go to be cremated.

I know many of you have heard and seen photos of him before. It is a sad day in our home and we will be giving him lots of love during our last few days with him.

To honour our beautiful boy I thought I would repost some photos we took of him a few years ago.

The header photo is one of him and Klara when she went to a dress-up day at school as him.

  8. Despite all the joy that our pets give us it is these times that make pet ownership so difficult. They are members of our family and the loss is heartbreaking. I’m afraid we’ll be facing a similar scenario with our beloved Frances in the near future. Enjoy your last few days with Tiddles. Hugs from Canada.

    1. Yes, so very true, it is one of the saddest parts about owning them. Though I guess we have to live with that reality and enjoy them even more. He is being very spoiled right now and is being giving a lot of love. I hope when it happens to Frances it is similar, lots of love. Thank you so much Carol.

    1. My daughter, I believe instructed him a while back that he had to live forever, but I don’t think he listened. Thank you Jeff.

  9. Very Sad. I’ve had several cats that have lived well over 15 years (17, 20, 21) and it’s very hard when they finally go.

    1. It is very hard, I don’t think I’ve ever had a pet this long. I grew up with lots, but they weren’t always around for long. Thank you Craig.

  10. Oh Leanne, I’m so very sorry to hear this devastating news. May you love and spoil Tiddles as much as he wants. Sending big hugs to you and your family. Xoxo

    1. Thank you Jan, it is devastating, but we were expecting it in a way, not the way it is happening, but we knew it was coming up. He is old.

  11. I feel with you, Leanne. Tiddles looks beautiful and have had a long life.
I had two brothers, who would become 16 years in late June this year. One of them needed to go in the beginning of June and his brother is struggling a bit too now. I do my best to give him only good days with lots of love.

    1. Thank you Irene, he certainly did have a long life, and if we are honest we knew it was coming.
That is sad about your boys too. To be separated like that.

    2. Yes, I think you can do it here, but you have to jump through a few hoops and only in some situations. Sad really. We can be incredibly cruel to our own kind.

  12. So sorry Leanne, it is such a painful time. Thinking od you and your family x
