Monochrome Wednesday – Princes Pier

There was some debate as to whether I would do Monochrome Wednesday today. Would I have time, but then I found this image of Princes Pier and thought, why not.

Monochrome Wednesday – Princes Pier

Even after all this time I still find Monochrome, or black and white, difficult. Trying to work out what images will work well can be hard. What I tend to do is just keep converting images until I find one that I think will work.

That process can take me days, or hours, and at others, it just happens.

Today I have one that I took last year down at Princes Pier. It is an incredibly popular place for photographers here in Melbourne. It is rare to get down there and not find or be joined, by other photographers. The posts in the water are very photogenic, so completely understandable why.

I’m sure you have seen many photos of this spot from me. I’ve been down there a few times. The images also lend themselves really well to black and white. Though, this is a monochrome image as I put a blue tinge over the top. There is something about adding tones to images that I find myself doing a lot. I’ve spoken about it before, but I guess I find it really hard to do straight black and white. There has to be some colour there.

This image is a long exposure and was taken in the morning.

Joining in

It would be great if you would like to participate, especially if you are enjoying the monochrome challenge again. If you want to contribute there is a Facebook groupTPM Photos which you can join and share your images. Of course, if you are blogging no reason why you can’t post your own. I like this challenge and it is nice to be thinking in monochrome again.

  1. Leanne, the pier is absolutely other worldly. The long exposure you made lends this surreal quality to your photo, and the slight bluish tint adds to that surreal, cold quality. Well, I love it. So glad that you are back to getting some enjoyment out of your work again. Thanks for sharing with us.

    1. Thank you Tim, it is an amazing pier to photograph. Thanks, I am getting back into it all, can’t wait to start taking photos around New Zealand.
