Another reposting from my trip to the USA. After yesterday I was looking at the photos from Roosevelt Island and thought it would be nice to show them again. Have you been there?
Today we had a fairly easy day. We got ready at a leisurely pace and then headed to the subway and caught a couple of trains to Roosevelt Island.
This is a lovely place in the middle of the river between Manhattan and Queens. The first thing I saw was the Ed Koch Bridge and I spent a lot of time taking photos of it. We also walked to the end to the new Freedom Garden, I think it was called. It was a great place to get some photos of Manhattan. It was a lovely way to spend some time. When we were done we caught the tram back to Manhattan.
Once we were back we went and had Pizza at Patsy’s, I think it was called, it was really nice. Then we went to Bloomingdale’s so I could get some more presents. Not a great place to shop as the staff were very snooty and I certainly wouldn’t go back, even if I lived here.
It was a very relaxing day and we enjoyed it a lot. I have some photos for you now, I hope you enjoy them.
Closer to home! Thanks! Haven’t been there in awhile but I do have family that came from that area! Your really did a wonderful tour of the US! 😊😊😊
Thank you Phil, that great to hear you know the area. I have lots more to post, but I trying to spread them out more.
The staff in the higher end stores tend to be snooty. They judge you as soon as you walk in by your clothes.
Yeah, they are aren’t they. I often love the pretentious nature of them, it can be very funny.
One of those type of stores in France have Oprah a hard time. Evidently she went in wearing something like sweats. They had no idea who she was or that she was a billionaire.
Hahaha, that is funny, I wonder how she felt about that. Bit like the Pretty Woman scene.
Peeved enough it made the news.
Full of their own self importance maybe. I would think it would be nice to go somewhere and not be recognised.
Herein lies the dilemma. Dress down to be unrecognised, but be treated rudely by store workers or dress up , come with an entourage and not be shown the door.
I think it is best to be yourself and laugh at the snottiness, don’t take it seriously. Hard to imagine that people working in a store can really think they are better than everyone else.
It’s great being a tourist, isn’t it? I lived in New York until I was 30 and I never visited half the cool places you went. While I was growing up, Bloomingdale’s was just a local shop. They had great sales and were friendly. Times have changed and many of the previously snooty store have disappeared, so I guess they fell into the whole left by those other place where I never shopped. Too expensive. I never worried about snooty, actually. I just worried about whether or not I could afford it.
I still haven’t figured out how to submit photos to your challenges. Every now and then, I have a picture I think might be good enough, but I look at the instruction and get a bit lost, especially because the site changes and I don’t necessarily get the notifications or they get lost in the mass of email I get from a million places that seem to feel that deluging me with email will make me buy something.
Your pictures are flawless. I’ve been looking at them and wishing I’d taken more pictures when I lived there, but by the time I owned “real” cameras, I didn’t live in the city and was out on Long Island. And, of course, it was all pre-digital.
It can be great, though I am more a fan of staying home I have to confess. Times have indeed changed.
Which challenge do you mean Marilyn, Monochrome Madness or the Lens Artists one. For Monochrome you just post the photos on your blog and put a link back to me, or the host for that week.
It is always a problem when you feel like you didn’t take enough photos, I feel like that about the 7 months we lived in Denmark. I didn’t take enough. Thank you Marilyn.
Beautiful images Leanne! I lived in NYC, the Bronx, in my childhood and never made it out to see the rest of NTC. Thanks for showing me Roosevelt Island.
Thank you Anne, that seems to be a common thing, a few people have said the same thing. I know there are things here in Melbourne that people do and I never have, like a football match with the AFL. lol.
Thank you for reposting this because it is perfect timing. It is my birthday soon and I use that as an opportunity to force everyone to participate in my choice of day trip and this year I have decided we should visit Roosevelt Island.
You’re welcome Laura, sounds like a good time, and I think your kids would love it too, the tram ride was fun. Let me know how you find it. Thank you Laura and happy birthday.
Born and raised there, never been 😂. It took some friends to get me to the Statue of Liberty about 20 years after I had moved away 😂😂. Saw it every day from afar, but typical New Yorker…
Hahaha, I think it is pretty typical when you live somewhere. I have talked to people who liked to go to the AFL, footy here, and then I say, I’ve never been to a match and they are shocked. Thank you Ted.
Thank you for the tour, Leanne, I’ve never been there!
You’re very welcome John, thank you. 😀
Ha! I had to laugh about your comment on the snootiness of ‘Bloomies.’ I can’t even afford to window shop places like that.
I don’t think I had any idea about the store really, I had heard of it I think because of the show Friends. lol. Thank you Lois.
Wonderful shots! You have seen more of New York City than I have, even though I live about 50 miles from it.
Thank you, I think that happens a lot, I know people who have come to Australia and seen a lot more of it than me. You will have to get out some more.
a nice mix of the island and the city, snooty doesn’t cut it for me either, and I’m glad most people you encountered were not that way
Thank you Beth, yeah, it is good when you find some real people.
Beautiful
Thank you.
