Walking around the city with the Fujifilm Instax PAL Digital Camera

A month of so before Christmas, my daughter showed me this new camera she had. It fit in her palm and she said it was fun. It was also very cheap. I asked her what it was and she said it was a Fujifilm Instax PAL. You know, of course, I looked it up. It is like a toy camera.

It wasn’t an expensive camera, and I can’t tell you the technical specs, because at the end of the day, I don’t really care. I think my daughter paid about AUD$60 for it, so my first thought is, what can you expect really? It has no screen on it, but there is an app so you can connect it to your phone via Bluetooth. With the app, you can shoot remotely, so the screen is on your phone. It is sort of fun.

I read some reviews for it that said the photos weren’t very good. I just thought, well, derrr, what can you expect from a camera that cheap?

My daughter bought me one for my birthday recently, and I spent some time playing with it at home. Then yesterday I went into the city with my friend Chris. She has one too, so we walked around with them, taking photos.

It is nice that you can just hold it in your hand while looking at your phone to compose your image and click. It’s a great camera for street photography because I don’t think anyone even realised that we were taking photos.

It does have that Polaroid look, so all the photos end up with the white border around them. You can’t change that, but you can decide if you want vertical, wide, or square. There is also the option to change it after you have taken the photo.

The app does have some processing capabilities, they are limited, but you can straighten, change the contrast, or change the exposure, plus a few other things. As with most of these things, you can also add a filter to them. It is sort of cool what you can do, though it is limited.

The can hold up to 50 images, but if you put a Micro SD card in it, you can take a lot more. However, if you are using the app, the photos are transferred to your phone straight away, so you don’t need one..

We spent a few hours in the city, and I took over 100 photos.  I have selected a few for you to see and have them here for you.

I have also been experimenting using it for my flowers, which has been fun too, but I will show you those another day.
