Dreamy images for Lens-Artists Challenge #369

Ann-Christine from Leya is asking us for our Dreamy images this week. You will need to look at her post to find out how she defines Dreamy. It is quite an interesting idea for a challenge.

I was trying to work out what to do, and then I thought about my long exposure photos. One of the reasons I love this sort of photography is the unreal quality they have. You can’t see this sort of thing with your eyes. There is something ethereal about them. It is one of my favourite types of photography.

For anyone curious, you use ND filters, which are darkened, so you can take exposures for much longer than you could normally. Most of the ones I’m showing you are at least 2 minute long exposures. So you sort of capture the movement and things glide through the frame as you are waiting for the image to finish. It does take some patience though, which is good for me because I don’t have any normally.

I have shown you so many different ones in these challenges, but I tried to pick some that were done a long time ago. Hopefully, you haven’t seen these too recently.

I really want to get back to doing this sort of photography again, but the weather hasn’t been cooperating here. The wind, you are going to hear me complain about it a lot, has been out of control.

Thank you so much for being our host this week Ann-Christine. I would encourage everyone to go and take a look at her post and her dreamy images.

    1. Any time Donna, come to Melbourne and I will take you out. I love long exposures so much, you’re welcome and thank you too.

  2. Well, Leanne – you are so right about long exposures being otherworldly. They are dreamy indeed. I admit I didn’t remember mentioning this way of approaching dreamy! Maybe because I am not good at it and seldom use it. I should indeed get an ND filter…and learn! You are the expert and I admire you insanely!

    1. I’m glad you think they are Ann-Christine. I hope it still works for the theme. I love long exposures, though I don’t do them as often anymore. Thank you Ann-Christine.

  3. You’re right, these long exposures really do have a dreamy quality. I especially like the ones with jetties providing an element of stillness reaching out into the moving water.

  4. These are lovely as always Leanne. I’ve seen some of your long exposures in the past – you are definitely the master!

  8. The Watkins Bay pier is wonderful, the essence of dreaminess since the pier is floating without visible support, as it might in a dream. Piers jutting into the water are great subjects for your style here. I like your long exposures. Lots of skill there.
