There are images that just happen before your eyes and then there are others that you have to create. Today’s image is the latter.
When I was in New Zealand back in 2019 we did a train trip on steam train, or we thought it was going to be one and it wasn’t. Oh I can’t remember, but we had to catch it from this station. We got there a bit early so we could have a wander and this was one of the images I took.
This train station was amazing and I love photographing buildings like this. There is history there, but now I can’t remember what that history is, sorry. Let me see if I can find a link. Look, there is a page on Wikipedia about it, click here.
The real problem for me was that the sun was shining very brightly and I couldn’t really get what I wanted, but that is when you have to be creative.
This is the final image.
In most of these posts I don’t show the before, because, to me, that would be like showing a black canvas. However, for this image I think it is really important to show the before because I think the transformation from the original is really phenomenal. They literally are night and day, or day and night.
I have often talked about how I like to make a photo that was taken during the day to look like it was taken at night and this is a perfect example of that.
Here is the before and after.
It took a long time and I don’t remember exactly what I did, but I did replace the sky and I had to turn the lamps on. I also had to do a lot with the highlights and shadows. I think it now looks like there is a very bright light shining from the left of the image and it is catching parts of the building. It wasn’t easy to do, but I love the end result and I hope you do too.
Remember for the Lens-Artists Challenge I said there was a 6th image that I wanted to do, well this was it. Also, the header image is just a cropped version of this one.
I think tomorrow for Silent Sunday I might repost some of the photos I took on the train trip, I hope you will like them.
Fantastic image, Leanne! The conversion from day to night is just awesome. So well done.
Thank you Joanne, it was a great image to do.
Beautiful captures of a beautiful train station, which we have seen 3 times. Have a good Saturday Leanne. Allan
Thank you Allan, lucky you that have seen it multiple times. YOu have a good weekend too.
I would never have guessed this was a daylight photo that has been edited. You did an excellent job.
Yeah, I think that is why I like to show the before, so you can see what I did. Thank you Laura.
Beautiful lighting.
Thank you Michael.
You’re welcome, Leanne.
Very evocative and unique. Love it!
Thank you Sam.
Brilliantly done, Leanne!
Thank you Sue.
I love the work you did here, Leanne. I am fascinating by these transformation photos. I wish I could create them like that. I’ve had a couple of attempts, but nothing as realistic as you composite. Excellent!
Thank you Egidio, I’ve using photoshop and trying to work out stuff for so many years now, plus I just have a go and see what happens. It doesn’t always work out, but I was very proud of this one.
It was a superb job! I’m nearly 100% Lightroom. I seldom use PS because I don’t know much about it. Lately, though, the TK-9 plug-in has made it much easier for me to venture into PS for basic things I can’t do in LR (seldom hardly anything).
I find LR kinda frustrating, seems to be bulkier, if that is the right way of saying it. I was using PS long before I started using LR, so maybe that is it, but I love working in layers and I think the tools are way better too. I haven’t heard of that plugin. I think once you get your head around using it, it is amazing.
Oh wow! What a phenomenal transformation! And what a lovely building to transform too. Great stuff.
Thank you so much Margaret, it is an amazing building.
Wow.
Thanks Donna.
Gosh Leanne, this is amazing. You are truly a talented artist. You helped me smile this morning. We had to put our dog down this week, and I’m feeling so sad and depressed. So thank you!
Thank you Anne, glad I could put a smile on your face, sorry to hear about your dog, it is always sad when that happens.
