Favourite Image Series – San Fransisco Bay Bridge at night

I wouldn’t say this is one of my all time favourite images, but it is my most favourite images that I took in San Francisco. It is strange that the whole time I was in the states, around 2 weeks was spent in or near the city, but I only really went into it twice. Sometimes I wish I had spent more time there, but then I wouldn’t have seen lots of other great things. I guess when you travel there is always some sort of pay off. I don’t travel enough, maybe those that do can chime in here.

This was a last minute idea to photograph this. It was at the end of a very long day, a great day, but it was only my first day and I was still tired. I had been walking around a lot and we had been driving all over the place. It was a full day. I had a blogging friend showing me his city and the things I got to experience were amazing. I had my first real cheeseburger, ate at a diner and also got to drive over the Golden Gate bridge. It was a day full of wows.

Just after we did sunset on the side of the bay my friend took us down to this spot. I had my tripod with me and I set up to take some night shots of this bridge, the Bay Bridge.

I can remember taking the shots and feeling really excited with what I was getting.

Here is the image.

I have not really done anything to it. It is pretty much straight out of camera. Most of my images have some basic processing and that was all I did to this one. Have to love images some times that just look great from the get go.

The image in the header is a cropped portion of this image. More cropping.

I might share a few more shots from that day if you don’t mind seeing them again. I think I will show just a few that show the highlights of the day.

  1. I love that foreground, it really makes the shot! As for missing things while travelling, I’ve learned that it’s almost inevitable. However long you stay somewhere, the chances are that there’s at least one sight you didn’t see, one experience you didn’t have. The important thing is that you enjoy and appreciate the thigs you did see and not beat yourself up about what you missed. There are no prizes for seeing everything!

    1. I agree Sarah, I was just saying that I don’t think it would have been as good if those posts weren’t in the foreground. That is good advice for travelling. You can’t see everything. I have lived in Melbourne for years and there is still heaps here I haven’t photographed or seen. Enjoying and appreciating the things you do see is really good advice, thank you so much for that Sarah.

    1. I agree, leanne, especially if there’s light like this. You’re always welcome. Have a glorious day, leanne, as you are.

  2. We spent two vacations in California and I was there for weeks working on a project in Oakland. For some reason, I didn’t have a camera and you keep showing me what I missed. Beautiful image!!

    1. Don’t you hate that, sorry Marilyn, maybe you will need to go back. I know I will never go back, but not because it isn’t a beautiful city. Thank you Marilyn.

  3. Great shot, Leanne. The Bay Bridge is unappreciated subject compared to its much more famous cousin, the Golden Gate. You have done it justice here.

    1. Thank you Robin, I think you might be right about that, it does photograph well at night. Glad you think that.
Hey where are you posting now? I know you told me but I forgot.
