Going on boat cruises for Lens-Artists Challenge #374

ON The MOVE is the challenge this week from John who writes the blog Journeys with Johnbo. Interesting that his first question is do you love to travel? My answer, NO, I don’t really like travelling. There are many reasons why I don’t, though I have been known to go on trips like going to Tasmania or New Zealand. I love getting the photos, but I don’t like all the travelling. Plus, I really have this thing about going overseas and the carbon footprint that I leave behind for doing it. I really care about what we are doing to the planet, and I know that travelling is one of the worst things you can do. So I try not to do it too often, especially flying. I let my passport expire this year so there will be no more OS trips anyway.

For this challenge, I decided to look at boat trips I’ve done. When I’ve been to Tasmania, I have been on many different boat excursions. It can be one of the best ways to see the rugged coastline.

Here are some of the photos from a few we have done.

My last time overseas and definitely the last ever was to New Zealand back in 2019. While we were there we did two boat trips, one on Milford Sound and the other to Doubtful Sound. The weather was gorgeous for one and not too good for the other. Not something you can control when you are travelling.

Great idea for a challenge, John and thank you for being our host this week. Please use the link at the beginning of the post to see John’s photos and words.

  1. New Zealand and Taz would both be on my wish list, but they’re simply too far away. Your own country is immense, Leanne, so you don’t really need to travel abroad to experience different landscapes, but I do respect your choice. I love small boats but cruise ships don’t appeal. Your photos are beautiful xx

    1. Both great places to visit Jo. Our country is immense, but it is also incredibly expensive to see. If places are popular with tourists they are too expensive. There is a reason most Australians go overseas for holidays, it is cheaper. I love those boat cruises too, they can be a lot of fun. Thank you Jo.

  2. I absolutely agree wit you about flying, but luckily, the train is still a pretty green option, which opens up Europe for us. I love travelling, and the chance to experience different cultures from our own. But then a cosmopolitan city like Melbourne can probably do that for you too! Great watery shots. I’m not a sailor, but like to look at those sea and river images.

    1. Unfortunately we can’t travel by train to other countries so I am stuck in Australia. Travelling by train here can be so expensive sadly. We do have lots of different cultures here. Thank you Margaret.

  3. Wonderful post, Leanne. I love travelling but like you, I’m very conscious of the size of my carbon footprint everytime I get on a plane.

    1. Thank you Sofia. I have done a lot of stuff to try and help with my carbon footprint, not eating meat, well rarely, we have put solar panels on our house, and as much other stuff as we can.

  4. Well, .you sound very committed to looking after the planet, I have to say Travel was important for me so I did used to fly a certain amount
