Looking back to when the lilac tree was flowering

Getting my lilac tree to grow and then have flowers was a great achievement for me. I love the colour and the smell of them. More were posted with this, so click here if you want to see other flowers.

  1. I have fond memories of lilacs from childhood. My mother had a lilac tree that grew and grew. In winter we would forget about it. Then in Spring, we would suddenly smell something and realize the lilacs were blooming. I tend to favor the lilac, purple/pink colors versus white. Thanks for the smile. Spring will be here soon!

    1. I love your description and hope that happens here. I love the smell so much, though my trees are still fairly small. My mum has one that is the lilac colour, but the edges are white, I want that one too, and am trying to grow some cuttings from it now. You’re welcome, thank you for sharing your story.

    2. I like the idea of lilac with white edges. My only sadness is that they don’t bloom / smell for too long. A month… 5 weeks maybe. So, when that happens I am out walking ALL the time, because so many people have lilacs. Yours will grow and be wonderful.

    1. I think they are one of those forgotten trees/bushes. I had trouble finding one to buy, had to get cuttings from my mum’s tree.

    2. Our last house up north had a back where the original builder had spent a small fortune on landscaping, which unfortunately was either not placed well or a wrong selection for the cold area. Lilac was an early casualty. It was great while it lasted though.

    3. That is sad that it died, it is cold here, but I imagine not like the cold you would get there. I hope mine will thrive.

    1. It is good Anne, and nice to have the photos until it flowers again. Thank you Anne.

I just saw on the news about the Santa Cruz pier, oh no.
