Looking out to the views below from the Nut in Stanley – Part 1

Just recently I’ve realised that I have a lot of photos that I took in Tasmania last year and I’ve never processed them or worked on them. Doesn’t mean you will see them all now, but I do want to share them. I do have to admit that there will be quite a few now though, however all from Stanley it seems.

While in Stanley, the biggest thing you see there is the Nut. It is a rock formation and apparently it is a volcanic plug, which forms when the magma hardens in a vent. Makes sense I suppose. Look up Wikipedia for more information on them.

The nut is pretty high up and a walk or track has been created around the top so you can hike around it. The views from it are quite amazing. The track is around 2 km and while not that hard I seem to remember lots of steps, I hate steps, they are hard on the knees.

So today, I have the views from the north and east sides of the Nut. Tomorrow, for Silent Sunday, you will see the views from the south and west sides. The western ones are great because you can see the town of Stanley below. Magic.

To get up on the Nut, there is a chair lift, or you can walk. Be warned, if you walk, it is very, very steep. I walked down it, and it took me a couple of days for my legs to get over it.

Here is a gallery with the first half of the photos, and like I said, the rest will be up tomorrow. I hope you enjoy them.

  1. Your photography is breathtakingly beautiful. The way you capture things through the lens, totally awe inspiring to me. Thank you for sharing your awesome work.

  2. Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I’ve been to Tasmania so many times as a child and our family took over our caravan and toured around the island but I don’t remember going to Stanley. My Mother’s family and extened family come from Tasmania and were some of the early settlers in the 1800’s.
Copping, near Port Arthur, is named after my ancestors.

    1. I remember you telling me about that Vicki, it is a great place to visit. I tried to convince my husband that we needed to move there, but he wouldn’t hear of it. I have never been to Copping, or driven through it. It is a funny spot and you do have to make the decision to actually go there, if that makes sense. Though the area there and around it is very nice. Thank you Vicki.

  3. Nice work Leanne. Stanley is a wonderful place a real mixture of history and nature. It has the best place for a cemetery with the sea view. Thanks for the reminder of my times in Tassie.

    1. Yeah, sometimes I wish we spent more time there, but don’t tell the friend I went there with. It is a gorgeous place, and very underrated I fear. I was thinking the same about the cemetery, lol, you’re welcome Peter, and thank you.

  4. oh, but what a view! thanks for making the climb for us and sharing pics. so we don’t have to~! )

    1. Oh I cheated Beth, I went up in the chair lift, lol. Though if it wasn’t there I would’ve climbed up. Thank you Beth the views were so good.
