Looking through boats to what is beyond

I found these photos in a folder from 2018 and thought I might try processing them. I didn’t do them at the time, and that is probably because I didn’t like the boats.

Then again, sometimes I’m glad I left images for me to find later on. Means that I know there are lots of images in my archives that I can now process and show for the first time.

When I was looking at these again, at first sight, the images look like they are out of focus, but actually, it is just the boats. The photos were taken early in the morning, and I would have used a tripod, everything else in the shots is very sharp. I like how you can see through the masts to view beyond the boats. The city is there, the Westgate Bridge and the place where container ships are unloaded or loaded.

I used ON1 Photo RAW 2026 to process these. I used the Effect LUTs to make them look similar in colour.

Tomorrow, for Silent Sunday, I have a selection of other photos taken at Williamstown for you to see.

  1. I like te moodiness of the bottom right shot. Your main shot is harder to ‘read’, as it’s so white. But that’s probably exactly what your eye saw!

    1. The main shot is the first one I looked at and I really had to look because I thought it was out of focus, lol. The boats are so white, so that is part of it too. Thank you Margaret.
