Our host this week is Margaret from From Pyrenees to Pennines and she has chosen the theme of MUSIC.
When she first mentioned it I didn’t really know what I would do. It isn’t something that I really photograph, but then when I thought some more I remembered that I have taken photos of buskers in the past. So they are my answer for the theme of music.
So below I have a few photos I have taken in the city of buskers, plus an extra one of the keyboard of the giant organ in the Melbourne Town Hall. Not a great shot, but the lighting was really bad and I was on a tour. I mean what can you do?
I was a bit disappointed with what I could find in my archives. I think my problem is that I am not around musical people and I don’t like photographing people. Puts me in a bind.
Then I got thinking some more about things that I think are like music and for me that would be water. I love the sounds or the music that the ocean makes, especially when it is crashing, like a drum on the rocks or the beach. I also love the sound of the water running down over a high point making a waterfall.
I’m sure that music was originally inspired by nature, and I’m going to take water as that inspiration. So I have put together a few photos.
I hope you don’t mind Margaret.
I want to thank Margaret from From Pyrenees to Pennines for kindly being out host this week. I hope you enjoy it Margaret and any time you want to do it again let me know. Please go and take a look at her post to see what she has done.
Participating in Monochrome Madness
If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then I can use the reader to see what you post.
You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to my monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.
Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. We have also included a list of themes that will be coming in the future so if you want to be able to plan ahead you can. They aren’t in order, but will happen. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.
Also if you would like to host one week or more, let me know.
I like the photo of the cello player best, I can almost hear him play.
I went for some wood winds: https://picturesimperfectblog.com/2024/11/27/who-plays-it-better/
Thank you Elke.
I think this is a really clever response Leanne! Your busker shots are all great, but it’s a wonderful idea to also feature the music to be found in nature, and your water images are beautiful 🙂
Truly I was a bit desperate, I don’t photography people really, and when I thought about the water stuff, I thought yeah, I can do that, so I did. Thank you so much Sarah.
…And here is my entry:

Great Egidio.
Great photos Leanne. I like the end using the music of water as well 👍😀
I stayed at home for my MM on music

Thank you Brian.
I love monochromatic shots
They are great, thank you.
The link doesn’t work Teresa.
Great photos, and I love the theme, too.
Thank you Egidio, Margaret did a good job with the theme.
Loved the two first shot, you got the music into them.
Thank you Ritva I’m glad.
Yes, I agree that water is musical, Leanne.
That’s great Sandy, thank you.
Leanne, your street photography is excellent! Give you some credit, I love these very candid street photos. ❤️😊
Thank you so much John, just a shame it isn’t something I like doing. 😯😒
It’s okay, Leanne. 😊
Hahaha, thanks John.
😊😊😊
This is a great post Leanne! I love your cellist in particular (you shoud ‘do’ people more often!). I sensed your dismay when I told you what I’d chosen, but you’ve found some wonderful shots, and I was glad that you included some from the natural world. I must admit I expected most of your shots to come from here. Just in case the pingback is off duty, here’s my starter post: https://margaret21.com/2024/11/26/where-words-fail-music-speaks/
Thank you Margaret, I love the cellist too, one of my best street photos I think. I don’t do it much because I feel uncomfortable doing it. Sometimes I need to sit with a theme and then work out what I’m going to do. This one did really make me think, so you chose well, isn’t that what challenges are about? Thanks again Margaret and any time you would like to do it again, just let me know, you can be a regular if you want.
Oh thank you Leanne. Well, I’m enjoying this, expecially as I get to see contributors whom I hadn’t yet ‘met’. Yes, I tried to think of something that might make people scratch their heads a bit, and the contributions so far have been great, haven’t they? I’d be happy to do this on a more reguar basis.
That’s great Margaret. I haven’t put up any dates for next year, but will let you know when I do. I need to sit down and work them all out. Maybe I will just do the first few months. So glad you enjoyed it. It is a much smaller one than Lens-Artists so easier to manage. Thanks again for doing it.
Your people photographs are great, though, Leanne. No one is even looking into the camera–which is wonderful.
Thank you Lois, I think the people were too busy.
I love buskers, each working hard, and unique
Thank you Beth, they do work hard, I wonder how they go now when people don’t use cash much anymore.
I absolutely love your wave images Leanne, especially Apollo Bay.
Thank you Anne, some of my all time favourites.
