This week our theme has been set for us by Dawn from The Day After and she has made it DECAY.
I think this is a great theme. If you want to know more about it then you will need to take a look at Dawn’s post. It will be on her blog.
Really what photographer doesn’t like photographing things that are decaying?
Now I’m not a person who goes looking for dead bodies, or decaying animal carcases, but I love dead flowers. So when I learned that Dawn wanted to do decay my first thoughts went to dead flowers, or flowers that were heading that way. I have quite a few in my garden, but I didn’t get to photograph them before this post.
We have just had over 70mm of rain, that is about 3 inches I think. It is so good to finally get some decent rain, but it also meant that there has been lots of wind so I couldn’t photograph them. I might still do it when the weather is better and do some more photos. The rain really ruined a lot of my flowers.
I found these images in my archives. Two of them I have shown in colour before, but the others have been processed for the first time.
There is something that really works with monochrome and decay. It just seems to add to it so much. I don’t know why, but I love it and I think I am going to have to experiment more with this. What do you think?
Participating in Monochrome Madness
If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then I can use the reader to see what you post.
You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to my monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.
Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. We have also included a list of themes that will be coming in the future so if you want to be able to plan ahead you can. They aren’t in order, but will happen. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.
Also if you would like to host one week or more, let me know.
Fabulous flowers — on their last leg, so to speak (do flowers have legs even?) I went for buildings or rather parts thereof: https://picturesimperfectblog.wordpress.com/2024/04/03/the-front-door-is-the-calling-card-of-a-house/
Thank you Elke, I didn’t think of buildings until I had my post ready. They are a good choice too.
Leanne this are stunning, I especially love the one at the bottom left.
Thank you Ritva.

Excellent!
Thanks Dawn.
I love decayed/decaying plants and buildings
Me too Beth. Thank you.
These are beautiful, Leanne. Your header photo is especially pretty, and being shot in B&W just enhances it. Lovely!
Thank you so much Lois. I think the same, about the B&W, I would like to do more.
Thanks for sharing this idea Anita
No problem.
