When I posted my photos on Sunday of the infrared flowers I was asked by Lois what the difference between infrared flowers and normal monochrome flowers. I did photograph some of them with both and so I thought today I could show some of those.
It turns out I only have three of them, so when I show the gallery I will put those three at the start of the gallery. Infrared sort of doesn’t take any notice of the colour, whereas when you photograph in colour and then convert the colour can really change an image.
Let’s take a look and don’t forget to check out what our next theme will be after the gallery.
For the next theme our host is Dawn from The Day After and she has chosen the theme of SPOOKY for Monochrome Madness #20.
Should be a lot of fun, though interesting for me because we don’t really do Halloween here in Australia. People try, but it is not really a thing. I am going to have to really look for photos for this one. Though, I am visiting my mum at the moment so I am hoping I can get some good images here for it.
Participating in Monochrome Madness
If you would like to participate in this challenge please post photos on your blog and use the tag Monochrome-Madness, then I can use the reader to see what you post.
You can also leave a pingback, do they still call them that? Basically, you put a link to my monochrome madness post in your post and it leaves a link in the comment section.
Don’t forget to check out the Monochrome Madness page. On this page, the next theme is announced and there is also all the information for participating. We have also included a list of themes that will be coming in the future so if you want to be able to plan ahead you can. They aren’t in order, but will happen. Please go and check it out. Click on the Monochrome Madness heading in the menu.
Also if you would like to host one week or more, let me know.
Cool 😎 looking 🌺
Thank you Satyam.
I love the drama of these shots, especially the backlit one top left in your gallery (a poppy?)
As we have a free rein this week I’m taking the opportunity to share a few shots from my recent California trip: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/gallery-seeing-san-francisco-in-black-and-white/
Thank you Sarah, yes a poppy.
I am behind this week, so will get to yours soon.
Light and light effect replacing colour. —
I still don’t like black and white flowers but here goes: https://leannecole.com.au/monochrome-madness-switching-off-the-colour-in-my-flowers/
Thank you Elke, you know you don’t have to do them, lol.
Yes, I know. But occasionally stepping out of one’s comfort zone is not a bad thing. 😉
I think that is what Monochrome Madness is all about, doing just that.

I wonder if I will have something for Spooky. Melbourne is not good with that hey. We shall see.
I know what you mean Teresa, I feel the same way about spooky.
Looking at your wonderful flowers, and lacking my own inspiration, I decided to post flowers as well. So many to choose from and I have a few in my media flies but I decided to do new flowers.
Here’s my MM

Thank you Brian, flowers are always good if you ask me. I think I do macro more than anything else these days and of course perfect time of the year for them now.
Love the first one on your gallery. Is it a clematis?
No not one of those, it is a poppy, I understand why you think that. Thank you Sofia.
Interesting. I hadn’t really understood what infrared photography was, so thank you. And spooky may not be for me. In fact I may move to Australia forthwith. American style Hallowe’en arrived here some years ago, and I can’t stand it! I’m away for most of the week, so can’t trawl my archives for suitably spooky possibilities.
Thank you Margaret, glad it helped. Yeah, I wasn’t sure about spooky either, but I think I will go with haunted, and maybe abandoned. YOu can come here any time Margaret.
Very beautiful flowers, Leanne! ❤️
Thank you John.
Beautiful Leanne! Thanks for explaining the difference between B&W and infrared.
Thank you Anne, you’re welcome.
Thanks for this, Leanne!
No worries Lois, I hope it helped to show the difference. Thanks.
they’re really cool looking
Thank you Beth.
