Monochrome Madness – Unexpected Flower

Hey all, I’m back again. I am trying to work out some problems I’m having with the blog. It seems nothing I post is showing up in the reader. I have no idea why. In fact, if I go back to posts that I did last year and were in the reader, they are not there anymore. I have also noticed that not many of the monochrome madness posts have been showing up there too.

I’ve never been a big fan of people leaving links here to their posts, but at this point in time, I think it might be a good idea. So if you do a post for MM please leave a link in this post and I will go and take a look. I hope others will do the same.

If anyone has any idea what is happening with the reader, please let us all know.

My photo today is another flower in monochrome. I think I want to keep doing more to see how I go with them. This flower is a bit more unusual. Any guesses?

Just over 12 months ago I decided to try growing turmeric. It sounded like it could be fun. Then I heard that they had flowers, but to see the flowers you had to leave the turmeric in the ground for 2 years. Apparently, the flowers grow on 2nd year plants. I had it in 3 pots and I left one lot in a pot. It died off in winter and then grew again in spring.

The other day I was out there watering it and I noticed a flower. I was a bit surprised.

I took a photo of it with my phone and here it is.

It is so beautiful. I wonder if I keep growing it will more flowers will come.

I love it when flowers like this happen. Unexpected delights in the garden.

  1. In your answer to Khürt you write: “Interesting you found me in the reader. I can’t find me anywhere.” This sounds like a deeply existential if possibly dadaesque problem. Sorry, I can’t contribute more than that. I hope you get your blog and its visibility sorted. Most of all, I hope you get yourself sorted and find yourself!

  2. I missed this post Leanne (and found it via the Reader’s ‘discover’ search) and I know I am following other blogs that seem to vanish from the Reader – I usually go from there to the website as the presentation in the reader is an insult – but best of all the turmeric flower showed up!

    1. I don’t know what it is with the reader, but glad you found it. Seems to be working again now. Yeah the flower of the turmeric has been lovely to see. Thank you Laura.

  3. Reader? What reader? I have never used that thing and wish that it didn’t exist. Viewing the actual blog is the best way to do this in my view.

    1. I like the reader, it is a good place to see what others are doing. Find new poeple and such. Viewing actual blogs is better, but how do you find new people to follow and or look at?

    2. Since its creation in 1999, RSS (Really Simple Syndication) has been a vital part of the web. It’s terrific for discovering independent sites, blogs, and podcasts. I’ve been a user since RSS began and have always appreciated its value.

Reader is an RSS aggregator. I use Reader to explore WordPress blogs. That’s actually how I came across Leanne’s engaging blog! Reader has been a fantastic tool for me, and many people also discover my blog through it.

The use of RSS is still on the rise, and it’s here to stay. I understand that everyone has their unique way of browsing the web, and that’s the beauty of it! I noticed you mentioned wishing RSS didn’t exist. I’m curious to hear more about your perspective on this. Different viewpoints always make for interesting conversations!

  4. I didn’t know turmeric had flowers. Gosh what a beauty it is!
Another blogger buddy of mine is having the exact same problem as you–nothing showing in the Reader. Thus far, the Happiness Engineers have been unable to help her. I hope they keep on and can fix it for you guys.

    1. Me either and then I saw it somewhere, they are beautiful.
I suspect they have changed something and it is effecting some of us. I know once they changed the stats page and the world clock was set on GMT, so if I wanted to know what the stats were in the morning, I had to wait until 10am. bizzare. I hope they can fix it too. Thank you Lois.

  5. Sorry to hear about your problems with Reader. This may be an issue with JetPack. Are you self hosted or on WordPress.com?

FYI. I’m responding to this from within Reader.

    1. Thank you Khürt, I’m self-hosted, and that is usually the problem. Interesting you found me in the reader. I can’t find me anywhere.

    2. I’m self hosted as well. The problem is usually Jetpack. I recommend uninstalling it and then reinstalling it. I have a Jetpack paid plan with email support. That’s what support usually recommends when I complain.

    3. I haven’t thought of doing that, though it seems to have sorted itself out now and last time I looked I was in the reader again.

  6. Leanne, the team at LAPC is also having problems with the WP Reader. It’s very frustrating because you can’t get a real person to talk to you. I’m letting other team members handle it. You can leave messages in the Chat, or just wait until they can figure it out.

    1. I know, it is so frustrating. I think because my blog is self hosted it is a bit different, but until recently it wasn’t a big deal and always appeared, so no idea what has happened now. They must have made improvements that messed up something else. Who knows. Thanks Anne

  7. Ah, WordPress. Making improvements to the platform like Microsoft to Windows.

  8. Is you website build in WordPress(.org) ? Did you have Jetpack installed on your website and is your site linked to your (earlier) wordpress account ? This is what I had to do with my site. Please google of more info on this subject, it will surely help you out.

    1. Yeah it is the .org and I do have jetpack and pay for it to boot. I have been googling, and I tried to contact jetpack, but never got a response. So much for paying. Maybe I should stop. lol. Thank you Rudi.

    1. I have seen some of that stuff about logging on too. I don’t know there are so many things that just don’t work properly anymore. I had trouble with photoshop this today. I’ve given up on trying to import photos with Lr, just dumb. I hate, hate pop-ups with a passion. Thanks Brian.

  9. I haven’t had any recent issues with the Reader that I know of but it certainly does play up from time to time 😠 I wasn’t aware you usually weren’t keen on people posting links in comments. I’m afraid I always do it because I know most pingbacks don’t work on my blog (a very long-running problem) and I worry others could have the same issue. So here’s mine for this week: https://www.toonsarah-travels.blog/gallery-a-misty-day-in-tynemouth/

The flower is very pretty and probably all the more so for being unexpected! I’ve never seen a turmeric flower so I’m curious what colour it is?

    1. I have no idea what is happening with the reader, I’m self hosted so that could be a problem.
I don’t really know that I wasn’t keen, just that I wanted people to use the reader, but hey that isn’t working very well so, just leave them here, I’m fine with it now. I get it. So thank you Sarah.
It is a white flower Sarah, I have just posted one in colour so you can see how it looks. Thank you.
