One image 4 ways – The Gaiety Theatre in Zeehan Tasmania Week 1

I really wanted to pick an image for this month that would be easier to do 4 ways. I spent the afternoon playing around with one to see how many different things I could do to it. In end I realised I could do many more than 4, so this was the image for us this month.

I took this image when I was in Tasmania back in May this year. We went to this tiny town called Zeehan that has a lot of really amazing buildings. Not at all what we expected to find there.

We had problems with taking photos when we got there, the first being there were lots of people, which meant lots of cars. I have to admit I never thought I would be able to use these images with the cars. The other problem was that it was late in the day and the building had the sun behind it.

Let me show you.

You can see what I mean here.

I had to make some decisions. One of the biggest was how to remove the cars. The obvious answer was to use Generative Fill AI, so I did.

I think you can see that the cars are gone now. Obviously AI doesn’t know what is there behind the buildings, but I think it did an okay job.

I straightened the building up. The odd angles from using a wide-angle lens can be annoying sometimes. I have learned over the years how to straighten them up.

I really didn’t do that much more to it. There was a sun spot that I removed with AI as well, but other than that it was just the general changes I always make at the start of an image.

As I did last month I am putting the images in a gallery so you can see the changes.

I think last month I was the only one who did this, so I am not going to worry about giving information about how to do the challenge. If you want to know, please ask.

  1. I haven’t really got to grips with the Adobe AI tools, and I’m not sure how I feel about them. But removing cars from in front of great old buildings seems like a virtuous outcome!

    1. So far, from what I can tell they are good for doing the things that used to take a long time to do, but it has a long way to go to be really good. I think the same about the cars, thank you Matt.

  2. Don’t want to seem picky but AI has removed the cream bar across the window on the right, even though it shows clearly above the car; spoils the symmetry. If it was me I would have put it back. Finding these four ways posts very interesting.

    1. That is always going to be the problem with AI at this point. It doesn’t know what the building looks like without the cars, so it has to guess and I have to pick the one that looks best. That’s great to hear RJ, thank you.

  3. Interesting little project! My problem is…..if I did this once a week, I would forget what picture I am actually working with; haha! . Must organise my photos. Never find the one I am looking for! Must look into more editing things, and this helps! Thanks.

    1. I think so Geoff. Well that would be a challenge, lol. I have to say organising your phtoos is a good thing to do, some sort of system. Glad it helps Geoff, thank you.

    1. Taht is an interesting way to look at it, some might be predictable, but hopefully I can show some other stuff too. Thank you.

  4. It’s simply amazing what AI can do in the hands of those adept enough to use it. I’m oblivious though.

    1. I know what you mean Sally, it is pretty amazing. It is actually a lot easier to use than you might think Sally. Thank you.

  5. What a beautiful building. You did great at taking out the cars. I have to learn more about Generative AI. I think LR has it now also.

    1. I thought so too Anne, bit of stunner. I knew I would have to remove the cars, and glad it is easier to do it now. I just took a look and it looks like you can do some in LR, not sure how good it is, but I can do a post on it if you like Anne, let me know. Thank you Anne.
