Visiting the Pioneer Settlement in Swan Hill

Today it has been really hot here. To say that our visit to Swan Hill and the Pioneer Settlement was silly is an understatement. Really not a great place to be when it is so hot. I did take some photos, but I don’t know if they will be any good. I did get one that I couldn’t wait to process.

This was in one of the shops, I think it was the stock and station agents, but to be honest, I can’t really remember. The interior was quite dark and all you could see was the light on the desk. I really like the way the camera saw it.

When I got home and started to play with it I wanted to keep that low light and tried to emphasis it a bit more. I also wanted a more sepia look to it, without it being a true sepia image. It is still colour, but has that tone. I tried to make it look like a memory, perhaps a moment gone.

Swan Hill wasn’t really successful for us, but I should have known better. I grew up around the area and I know what the heat is like. There will be other visits I’m sure, perhaps in the winter.

  1. Wow, with that shutter speed, the subject is in focus and no discernible noise. You’ve done a great job of capturing the past. Love it!

  2. Lovely Leanne! An off subject question–what theme do you use for your blog. I’m thinking mine is too cluttered and want to simplify it.

    1. Thank you Susan. Do you mean for this one here, the whole site is the Finch theme, it isn’t a free one, unfortunately, but not too expensive.

  3. I struggle with hot days as well, Leanne. They can be so oppressive and enervating.

But, your day wasn’t waisted even if it only resulted in this single image – it’s terrific. The composition and your choice of a sepia like tone work together very well to convey a past era.

Did you have to arrange the stuff on the desk, or is this the way it is displayed? I’d be interested in the EXIF for this shot. Thanks for sharing.

    1. The heat can really suck out any creativity I find.

No, not wasted, I might have got a couple more, though our tickets are okay for a couple of days, so we are going near there tomorrow so we might drip in again, you never know. Glad you liked how I processed. Thank you.

Not the stuff was already organized, which was nice. Oh the exif, I’m not good at that stuff, ISO 1000, f8 and 1/20 ss, does that help. I was leaning a counter to give me balance, can’t believe it was in focus. Thanks Don.
