Last week Benro Australia had an event at the Queen Victoria Night Market. I was excited to go and being an ambassador for Benro Australia it was something that would be good to do. I find situations like these quite hard, but being one of the ambassadors meant I had to lead, I can do that.
Queen Victoria market is big in Melbourne, but usually during the day. During the week there are fruit and vegies, Saturday as well. On Sundays they sell the stuff that many places sell, all the cheap stuff. During summer they do a night market where there are food stalls everywhere. It is really interesting to go. There are so many options for food. Lots of street food, and very yummy.
I was wondering around with the D810 and the Samyang 12mm fisheye. This kind of photography is not really something I like doing, but I will have a go and see what I can get. It has been one of those weeks, I’ve done quite a bit of photography that is different in the last few days.
I have some photos for you, all the images were hand held, no place for a tripod there. I hope your weekend has been good.

I have a fisheye, but I don’t use it much. I think about it, though. I’ll have to give a try, just to see.

Did you try ‘fixing’ the curvature and if so what results? I’ve seen some pictures shot on a crop sensor camera that looked pretty ‘normal’, if you will allow that terminology. I assume those were straightened in PS.

No, I don’t try to fix them, I like the curvy nature of the photos, it is great. So I don’t try to change that, I take the photos with it because it does that. These weren’t straightened at all.
The fisheye makes me feel a bit queasy but it was interesting to look at the results.

Lovely use of the fisheye. You made it work with a variety of shots an angles. Impressive. Looks like there was a crowd there that night – not surprising since I’ve heard it is popular night market. Hope you enjoyed the Benro gathering and being asked to lead. It sounds refreshing. Leading is not really my thing and I’m not used to it too. But since you have done teaching and one-on-one photography, maybe it went very well 🙂

Thank you Mabel, it is a fun lens to play around with. There were people everywhere that night, it was hard to move around. I did enjoy it, I don’t mind leading a group, it is good to be able to do that. I have to say the teaching has helped a lot.
I didn’t try it, but a couple of people said how good it was, I will have to try it the next time I see it. 😀

The fisheye lens always makes me feel like I’m seeing Einstein’s space-time warp. Or seeing the world on LSD. Either way, it stretches my brain. I mean that in a nice way 🙂
