When I first got an infrared camera I wondered if it would work for plants. I tried taking some photos with it in a rainforest and decided that it didn’t work and you couldn’t really do flowers or macro with it.
OMG, how wrong was I?
I just went back to those photos and don’t know what I was thinking, I am going to have to process some of them now.
Now, having said that, I am so glad that I tried again when I got the new infrared camera. I love flowers in monochrome or black and white, but I do think it is best if they are white or light colours. This is where the infrared camera is great, it makes all the flowers white, pretty much. I find dark coloured flowers are not as good in black and white when you do a conversion, so the infrared gives me what I want.
I like how you can focus on the structure, textures and shapes of the flowers. I think you can expect to see a lot more infrared flowers over the next few months.
I haven’t put the macro lens on that camera yet, but will have to try it. Infrared is a bit weird and the better the lens the more trouble you can have with infrared. You can get what looks like a light spot in the middle of the image. The best way to avoid it is to use crappy lenses if you can believe that. However, I have found for some photos that if you get it when you convert it to black and white it can disappear. I need to play around with that more. I will try my macro lens soon and let you know how it goes.
I won’t be out taking photos the next few days, it is going to be 37C for the next two. I don’t like the hot weather and I will be spending the days hibernating inside with the air conditioner on. lol
Here are some photos that I took about a week ago. They were taken with the converted Fujifilm X-T3 with the Fujifilm 18-135mm lens. Not bad for that lens.
Stunning as always, Leanne!π·β₯
Thank you Donna.
Lovely, Leanne! Your work always is. β€οΈπ
Thank you John, that is very kind of you to say.
Youβre welcome ππ

Interesting perspective! π
Thank you Reyna.
That is interesting about the lens making the difference with infrared. Who would have thought??
Yeah, who knew, I must admit when I first started seeing it this time I was surprised and then I remembered with my other camera. Exactly, the only time crappy lenses are better than others. Thank you Lois.
These are interesting, almost other-worldly shots. But please don’t go telling us all about your 37 degree temperatures when here it’s minus 5. I’ve a feeling you and I should swap homes for a month or two!
Thank you Margaret. I love hearing how cold it is there, helps to cool me down, lol. I love looking at images of cold when we are in summer. Yeah, we should Margaret, you come and live here. lol

Oh Leanne, these are so beautiful! I’m looking forward to seeing what your macro does on the infrared camera. Last summer we had so many triple digit F days that 98 F seemed cool! It felt like Arizona here in California. But, of course, there’s no global warming.
oh thank you so much Anne. Yeah, I am too, maybe I will get it out tomorrow morning and see how it is. We have had really mild summers the last few years, but I think we might be in for it this year, I guess time will tell.
They’re all beautiful shots, Leanne π
Thank you so much Ruth.
