Floral Friday – More from the garden

This week, we have had rain, rain, and then more rain. The humidity has also been disgusting for Melbourne. We are known more for our dry heat, which is what most of us are used to, so getting so much humidity has been horrible. Give me dry heat any day of the week, please.

Because of the weather I wasn’t able to get outside to do much gardening which I found frustrating. I never thought I would love spending so much time in the garden, but I really do. My mum and my grandmother both loved the garden and I always thought that I didn’t get the green thumb. I still don’t think my thumb is that green, but hopefully with time it will get greener and greener.

Quite a few of my dahlias are now flowering. I’m so happy about that and this one below is one of those. It is a very pale yellow and tends to come out white in photos.

I took this side view with a couple more flowers in the background. You can’t really see them, but they are there.

I was walking by my hydrangea and noticed that new flowers were starting to grow and I really like the patterns that were being created. So obviously while I was out there taking the photos I had to get some of these.

Lots of baby flowers really just starting to bloom.

The final image I have for you today is from my backyard. Take a look and see if you know what it is.

If you have any guesses, let me know in the comments what you thought it might be now before I tell you.

So the back story is that about a year ago I planted some onions in one of the beds out the back, but no onions developed. I decided to leave them in and then I noticed that flowers were starting to grow so I left them. This is what they look like now. I think I will get rid of them before the seeds as I don’t know that I want onions everywhere in the garden.

It is an exciting time in the garden as many plants that die off during winter are making their way back up through the earth. So many things to look forward to and I can’t wait to share them with you.

Just wanted to let you know that I did try the macro lens on the infrared camera and it wasn’t good. I got the really light spot in the middle. I will try it with the Lensbaby lenses and hopefully some of them will work. I used the Lensbaby Velvet 56 for these.

I’m going to leave you now with a gallery of the above images so you can see them a bit bigger.

  1. I love the air of mystery that your distinctive photographic style gives to the simplest of subjects! That dahlia shot in particular is fantastic, but I love all three of these!

  2. Love the dahlia image. The lighting and DOF are just perfect to make it more interesting that the usual macro.

Makes me think I should reduce the light on some of my early flower images in the RGB.

    1. Thank you so much Vicki. I like to try lots of different POVs to see what I can get. I have to say I also do my best not to shoot with the sun on my flowers. I hate direct sun.

  3. I love the ball flowers! It’s just 13% humidity in my house and 24% outside just now, Leanne, you would like it. I don’t handle high humidity well either.

    1. Thank you John, yeah, I think you are right I probably would like it. It is much the same in the area where I grew up.

    2. That is pretty much how I feel now John. I don’t have family overseas that I know, so it doesn’t seem that important.
