I think it is safe to say that spring has sprung. I feel like I keep saying that every time I go out into the garden, I find new plants that have blossomed. It is fantastic and a great time of the year for us macro photographers.
I’m still waiting to see if some things will come up this year that I planted back in autumn. Many things are coming up, but some are still dormant or dead. Will I see my bleeding hearts flower this year, or will the plants come back? I’m waiting patiently to see if my dogwood will flower, or even have leaves. Perhaps it is dead too, but I don’t think so.
On top of all that, we are not getting enough rain, and I have had to get serious about watering the garden again. Normally, at this time of the year, we get lots of rain. However, where I live, the rain is avoiding us. We get the odd sprinkle, but never enough for the garden. Unless things change, it is going to be a hard summer.
Some of these were taken just after one of those sprinkles. Love seeing the blossoms on the fruit trees too.
I love this reminder: for half the world, this is spring. Not fall. But we can be equal in our enjoyment of opposite seasons.
I totally agree Penny, it is a good reminder. It drives me nuts with challenges and competitions that will say show us your autumn colours, hello it is spring here. Thank you so much.
Just moving around Canada reminds me how much we are conditioned by where we are based. And long ago I had a dramatic reminder, when I lived briefly in Indonesia. I’m used to world maps with the Americas in the middle and Europe & Asia politely lined up either side; the Indonesian maps, of course!, put Asia in the middle, with the Americas dribbling down on one side. I laughed, but never forgot the point it made, about perspective.
I know what you mean Penny, I see documentaries at times and it is like Australia doesn’t even exist. I remember watching that movie the day after tomorrow and how the freeze thing happened in the northern hemisphere but apparently the whole first world was affected, and I was like so what do you think Australia is, seriously.
sigh… that’s how Canadians feel when we hear people (especially English people) refer to the United States as “America.” As if the other dozens of countries in the Americas don’t exist
Yeah, I get what you mean Penny.
Looks lik your summer is off to a beautiful start!
It certainly is Nora, thank you.
Beautiful photos, especially the header.
Thank you Lynette.
I see a shortage of rain isn’t just a problem we’ve had in the UK. Hope your garden flourishes but climate change is certainly making things hard for us gardeners.
No, it is becoming a bigger problem as time goes on here in Victoria. I just have to hand water more often which is disappointing. It really is making it harder and harder. Thank you Paul
Lovely, autumn here
Thank you Sami.
Beautiful colors, Leanne – the fully orange flower is stunning, and that last one is my favorite. I do have a question, and I hope you don’t mind me asking: why – and this goes for almost every photographer I know – do people post their photos so small? I rarely see anyone go above 1200 pixels on the long end. Personally, I never go below HD or 1920 px, mainly because larger files hold up better when viewed bigger, so I don’t really get it. Some say it’s to save space, but come on – a few hundred kilobytes isn’t exactly a burden. Do you have an important reason for keeping them that small? Thanks! Marc.
Thank you Marc. The reason for posting small images is the main reason is so it is harder for people to steal them, I mean they can still steal them but they can’t do much with them. The other reason too is storage. The bigger the images you load the more storage you need for whoever hosts your site. Plus bigger images take longer for others to load when they look at your page. So there are a few reasons.
Beautiful blossoms Leanne. I’m glad we share opposite seasons, so it feels like I can visit Spring while we are cooling down. It’s raining here right now. Typically a bit early in the season for us, but then the weather is noting but normal any more.
I have to agree Anne, I love it too, I love seeing the winter in the northern hemiphere when it is hot here. I wish we had rain. The weather definitely is not normal.
