Lens-Artists Challenge #314 – Shorelines

I love this theme and want to thank Anne from Slow Shutter Speed for choosing Shorelines and for being our host.  Anne is one of my friends and we have caught up a couple of times. The first time was in 2015 when I was in the USA and then again last year when she came to Australia.

I have photographed lots of shorelines over time, though Anne said we could pick any shore like a lake, river, or ocean I have chosen mainly ocean or salt water. There are some that are taken in Port Phillip Bay, but most of us think of that as an ocean anyway.

There are some beautiful places along the coast here in Victoria which I am starting with. Then onto Tasmania and the last one is a surprise for Anne.

Victoria

There aren’t that many places that aren’t really photogenic here as far as the coast is concerned. Over 2 million people visit the 12 Apostles and the Great Ocean Road every year. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Australia. It isn’t hard to see why. However, there are other places that are beautiful too.

Nearly all the photos in this gallery are from the Great Ocean Road, except for three. Can you guess which ones?

Tasmania

I’ve been to Tasmania three times now and it never gets boring. So far, we have normally gone to new places. Water is something that is hard to avoid. It is an island.

Some trips have concentrated more on the coast, especially the second one when we did the east coast. Even on this last trip we ended up on the coast a couple of times. A couple of my all time favourite images were taken in Tasmania, can you guess which ones?

California

When I was in the USA in 2015 I spent a wonderful day with Anne. We went to Santa Cruz and a couple of other places. The coast was different to ours, which I really liked. Makes you feel like you are actually somewhere different.

It was such a great day and I loved it. I have very fond memories of the trip and also remember how I had my first black fish taco I think it was. The Mexican food we have in Australia is pretty different. So much better there, which I don’t think is surprising. The Boardwalk was also very different to anything we see here. We have piers here, but they aren’t build on like the one in Santa Cruz.

Anne, thank you so much for this day. It was one of the highlights of my trip.

Let’s thank Anne from Slow Shutter Speed for being our host this week and I would love it if you went to see her post as well. Don’t forget to link your post to hers if you decide to join us.

  1. Oh Leanne, this challenge really has your name written on it. I always love the drama of your shots.

  2. This theme really suits your photography styles Leanne 🙂 Your images are often very dramatic, or very restful – both perfect for shorelines. The rock formation at the end of your Tasmania gallery (#14) is amazing!

    1. Thank you Sarah, I have to admit I was pretty happy when I saw what it was. That is a lovely way to describe my images, I like that Sarah. I love that one too. Can only see it if you do a boat cruise.

    1. Thank you so much Sofia. Yeah, it was a good one for me, though looking at what everyone else has posted it looks like it was good for many.

  3. There are some great shots, and a few of the images are truly stunning. It’s hard to pick a favorite because the numbering starts over with each new gallery, but overall, they’re beautiful.

As you mentioned to Bushboy, sometimes looking at a fellow photographer’s website can be inspiring. I’ve found that it can also be motivating. There are times when you feel like you’re running on empty, if you know what I mean, and seeing someone else’s photos can spark that drive to get going again. Thank you for sharing so many beautiful pictures.

    1. Thank you Bushcrafter. Glad you like them.
I agree, looking at what others do is a great thing to do. I love going out and taking photos, though sometimes it is hard to work out where to go.
I got your other image, I don’t know why this happens, but I will delete the other comment. Sorry about that.

  4. What a fantastic gallery Leanne I don’t have the time or space to list favourites. You have given me some ideas. Luckily my post is still in drafts 😁

  5. Wonderful post Leanne! When I put the post together, I deliberately left out the Great Ocean Road, leaving it for you. And you didn’t disappoint me. Your long exposures are beautiful. I so enjoyed that trip. I’m watching “My Life is Murder,” the first season when it was filmed in Melbourne. What a treat. I say to myself, “I remember that!” Then you brought back memories of your U. S. visit. We made it to Monterey just in time for sunset. In Santa Cruz you made photography look so easy. I was still fairly new at it. That was one amazing day.

    1. Thank you Anne. Glad you like my photos of the Great Ocean Road. I don’t know that show, I will have to look it up. I remember that sunset. It was such a great day. That is interesting, I know you have said that before, but it has never been something that I have been that aware of. I just shoot.

  6. A beautiful set of images Leanne, and some wonderful variety. The Great Ocean Road was one of the most memorable of our 6 weeks in Australia and we also enjoyed Tasmania.

    1. Thank you Tina. The Great Ocean Road is certainly very popular, which can be frustrating for us, but what can you do. I love Tasmania, it is a beautiful place.

  7. All beautiful photos, Leanne! I think we both follow Tone who lives in Hobart? I’m not sure on the city name but he takes very beautiful photos of Tasmania too.

    1. I completely understand you, Leanne. 😊 I’m a homebody guy but love to get out and about for pics which is what I need to do. A short day trip…

    2. We are homebodies too, more so Dave. I don’t think he likes leaving the house at all, lol. I like to get a bit, but I’m a homebody too.

    1. That is an interesting observation Lois, I have found when I have taken Americans along our coast they constantly tell me how it is the same as theirs. So good to hear ours are different. Thank you.

  8. Never having been to either Australia or America, I can’t play your guessing games. But I can admire your magnificent seascapes. Wonderful!

    1. Let me help you, in the first gallery 1,3 and 4 were not taken on the great ocean road and in the 2nd gallery 3 and 4 are my favourites. Thank you Margaret.
