What an interesting challenge we have from Patti this week. The details is something that I have always thought I wasn’t very good at. I was more a wide angle bigger picture person. Get the whole scene rather than a bit of it.
So what changed?
I think two things changed that, one was a macro lens and being able to get a lot closer to things like flowers and fungi. The other is my friend Suzzanna who was very good at looking at the smaller picture. She was good at finding tiny things to photograph and I learned a lot going out with her. Now I tend to look for those things on my own. When you start to look more closely at what is around you then you start to find all sorts of things.
So with Patti’s challenge about it’s IN THE DETAILS well, I had to go back to many of those photos that I took when I was out with Suzzanna.
I have a gallery here for you. All the fungi photos were taken while I was out with her, but not all the flowers. I wanted to give a mix of things that I try to show the details in.
As I said at the start I think this was a great challenge set by Patti, and you can go and see her post on her blog P.A. Moed. Please go and see what she has said and posted.
Thank you so much Patti, I think we often forget to look at the details and I like how you have asked us to do just that. Important lesson for me.

Such a beautiful collection Leanne …
Thank you so much Julie.
Hi Leanne. I thought I had commented, but I don’t see my comment! All kinds of WP issues this week! But…your macro “take” on your subject are gorgeous! Inspiring! The light is just right in every one.
Sorry to see that Patti, but I know what you mean, I’ve left comments and then they never appear, who knows what is going on.
Thank you Patti, glad you are okay with what I did.
Yes, definitely!
😀 😀
Wonderful photos Leanne, I found fungus too to share, 🙂
Fungus is great isn’t it, thank you so Ritva.
I so love these macro shots… the mushrooms especially.
Thank you so much Teresa, I love that we have rainforests that we can get the shots.
Love the fungi, Leanne but the agapanthus won my heart today. Wonderful gallery, there is a bit of magic with macros and you are brilliant in capturing it.
Thank you Sofia, I actually had the one you love framed and it is hanging on my wall. I love macros for that reason.
Beautiful, beautiful, Leanne. And the fungi just blew me away. Tiny ones with visible dew drops – what more could we ask for?
Thank you so much Ann-Christine, Yeah, I love getting these little guys.
Truly inspiring photos
Thank you IJ.
Like you I’ve found that going out taking photos with a friend can often change my perspective or open my eyes to other ideas for images 🙂 In this case I’m so glad your friend steered you towards these tiny details, especially the fungi which are exquisite!
I am really glad too, I agree about going out with friends. Thank you Sarah.
The details are lovely! Fungi has the best details if you look closely enough.
I’ve been wanting to take close-up photos but my eyes have been bothering me, so I’m waiting for my new prescriptions. This age-related vision changes are so annoying!
Thank you Esther. I agree about the fungi, I love when I can find it to photograph.
Oh I hear you with the age related problems, I have the same things.
I haven’t been able to find interesting fungi and it amazes me when people do macro shots of tiny fungi I need to get sneaky and look closer on the trees and ground.
Sigh…getting older has growing pains, just like there are growing pains for kids going through puberty. ha! Growing pains all around.
We have quite a lot of rainforests around Melbourne and you can usually find lots of fungi after rain, especially in the winter months. If that helps.
It really does, not sure I like it. lol.
I must wait for the rain and then go searching!! I don’t have rainforests to explore in California, but if we did, you bet I’d go there often.
That’s a shame, but I’m sure any forest would work. good luck
Awesome shots!
Thank you Sharon.
I love your photos!
Thank you.
I agree yay for macro. For my first SLR I bought a set of close up rings and they changed my photographic life
Yep, macro is amazing. I started with those before I got my macro lens. Thank you Brian.
Wowwww. GREAT details. Outstanding. 👏👏👏
Thank you so much John.
A fascinating gallery, Leanne. I especially liked the fungi series. I also have a friend here who’s taught me a lot about macro photography.
Thank you Egidio, I love fungi when I can find it. It is great learning from one another isn’t it?
That’s one of the best things in the WP community. There’s so much learning and support.
So very true.
Now you develop your micro eye, as well as macro — as you say, the more closely we look, the more we see. What a joy.
That is true Penny. I love that, thank you.
Beautiful flower close-ups.
Thank you Rebecca.
Beautiful photos, Leanne, and the fungi look as though they are from a different planet. ❤️😊
Thank you John, I know how strange are they?
Great macros Leanne. They are what attracted me to photography in the first place. I just love how you got to the details in the water drops.
Thank you Anne. I knew when I got back into it I would have to get a macro lens, so glad I did.
Gardens are truly appropriate for this challenge, Leanne. I will have one of my favorite gardens in my post as well.
I thought so too John, I look forward to seeing it. Thank you.
Perfect!
Thank you Dawn.
