Lens-Artists Challenge #358 – Live and Learn

I’m not sure about this challenge or theme this week. Sorry Tina, I have done so many posts in the past about my photography journey and what I’ve learned and my love of learning new things. In some ways it is what my blog is all about, my photography journey. So when I saw that Tina from Travels and Trifles had sent the challenge to LIVE AND LEARN, I was a bit stumped.

In 2023 I wrote a 6 part series on my photography journey and I’m going to add the links to all those at the bottom of this post if you are interested in reading about my journey.

This leaves me with the dilemma of what to do for this post. How do I say all the same stuff again without repeating it too much.

In the end I have come up with this, the following photos start with photos I took as a child, through my first roll of film with a my first SLR camera to my trip in New Zealand in 2019. There is a massive progression, and I have learned so much over the last 50 years of photography.

I guess you can either just look at the photos, or take a look at the links at the bottom if you really want to know what I have learned over the years.

Thank you Tina for being our host this week. Interesting challenge. Please go and take a look at her post, the link is at the start of the post.

  1. I loved reading about your journey, Leanne. You are a remarkable artist with your distinct style. And you have developed it on your own. I read the links as well. Smiled when you were allowed to borrow that camera and took better pictures than the owner…Sending a big hug of admiration.

    1. Yeah I know what you mean. it is good to look at other people’s post to help give you an idea. Then again sometimes I don’t really look and then just think about it and come up with my own interpretation. Glad you figure out what you wanted to do.

  2. Great photos all, Leanne, but my personal favorite is the veritable plethora of over/under arcs in the header photo!

  3. Your gallery really shows your progress from your first photos, evolving into today’s distinctive and beautiful edits 🙂 I’ll have to check out the details of your journey another day however, as I’m pushed for time today!

  4. Interesting to read about your journey, Leanne. I can relate to so many of it. I still try to make some money from photography but luck is a major factor. Talent, like yours should be recognised. It is here, in our community.

  5. A stunning gallery Leanne, we can all learn a lot from you too! 💖✨️

  6. I’ll need to get back to the links about your journey. I’ll have a long think about posting mine.

  7. I can see by your progression of examples, that the creativity in you was prevalent almost from the very first images. I wish I still had some of the slides and prints from my high school photography class. My “falling out of love” with photography in the 1970s was deep and long-lasting, only to be rekindled in the 21st century. >grin<

    1. That was a long time John, I think mine was less than 10 years. So glad you rekindled it, that’s wonderful. Thank you John.

  8. I’m working my way through your links. I really enjoyed the cycling blog. The first image of the cyclists in the velodrome would be on my bucket list of shots I’d love to try and capture. It’s similar to, and on a par with some images in a book I have – Getty Sports Photography. You have me wondering how I’m going to make that happen now 🙂

    1. Thank you Steve, photographing cycling was interesting. If you have a local velodrome just go and see if you can. Maybe do a deal with them. It is a lot of fun. I’ve been lucky to have been able to photograph world championships and local events.

    2. Hi Leanne, we do have a Velodrome nearby in Newport, Wales. I’ve just checked it out and as a result I’m looking at doing a beginners indoor cycle track lesson with my brother in law. We both ride regularly on Zwift so I’m pretty fit on the bike. I’ll check it out or photography whilst we’re there and perhaps ask re access for photography.

    3. Oooh exciting. I used to ride a bike on a velodrome, the fixed wheel was very weird, don’t stop peddling, lol or you will go over the handlebars. I used to do a lot of riding, but haven’t for just over 10 years. I hope you can get to take photos, please keep me updated.

  9. I think we all keep learning as we continue to grow and develop Leanne. Some of our followers are new to the art of photography while others have been at it for a very long time. We try to appeal to all levels. There are very few who have come as far as you have! As always we appreciate your joining us.

  10. You’ve clearly been an engaged and active learner all this time. I’ll come back and follow journey from newbie to now pretty soon!
