MM 3-22: Monochrome Madness

Some funny stuff has happened this week. Well, really the gallery I normally use for this post is disrupting everything. They updated the plugin and now, well it won’t let you read the posts. I’m sure some of you experienced it at the end of the last week. They have fixed it, but I can’t get the update, so we are going to do it differently this week. There aren’t a lot of images, so it should work okay.

It has been raining so much in Melbourne this last week or so and yesterday I was in the city to take photos, so everything had to be done inside. We went to the State Library of Victoria and went around the stacks taking photos. When I worked there only staff were allowed in the stacks. Now all the books are gone and anyone can go up there. It is a great place for the wide angle. Would be fun to try it with the fisheye.

Don’t forget all the instructions on how to enter your own images are at the bottom of the post.  If you have entered an image then please remember to check your image in the gallery, scroll down and see if anyone has left you any comments.

Monochrome Madness each week and if you wish to participate and submit an image here is how you do it:-

  • You must email me the image you want to include and if you have a blog or website, or somewhere else, please include the link. My email address is leanne@leannecole.com.au
  • The image size should be low res, so the largest side should be 1000 pixels or less.
  • Please insert either your name or your blogs name in the file name.
  • Remember I am on Australian time, so with GMT I am +11 hours at the moment, I publish my post on Thursday morning.
  • If you need more help with sending images, and get confused about time zones, etc, well, there is a great website called The World Clock, if you go to that and look at Melbourne time, if it’s before 6pm on Tuesday evening, then you can still send me images.  If it’s after that time, you can send me an image, but it will be set aside for the following week.
  • Remember to include a link to your blog or website.
  • Please remember to resize your images, it is fairly simply, you just need to go into any editing software and usually under Image you will find, resize, scale, or image size, something like that and you can resize your image there. Change the dimensions to pixels and make the longest side 1000 pixels or smaller, hit return, and for most types of software that should change the other side automatically as well. Just remember to save it with a different name so you know it is the smaller version.  If you have any problems, please contact me, I don’t mind helping out.

Please note you don’t have to be a WordPress blogger to be in this challenge, you can have a link to a Facebook page, a Flickr page, anywhere really, or no link.  We just want to encourage people to do monochrome images, just for the madness of it. Just to let you know also, that as soon as the challenge is published, all emails and images you have sent me are deleted from my computer.

  1. It’s not as easy to make a successful B&W image as one would think Leanne , but everyone is stepping up to the challenge here . Lovely work !

  2. wonderful presentation of wonderful images Leanne. So sorry I’m so way behind in posting and everything with moving and all the fixing up needed etc etc. Great work everyone!! I love the images this week. I would love to comment on each one they all have such quality and variety!

  3. Wonderful shots all, and especially love your shot of the library, Leanne! The Library of Congress in DC has such a reading room with a viewing gallery atop. Only two days a year are photographers allowed on to the main floor to shoot. I’ve got to find out when!

    1. thank you Stacy. That is sad that you can only shot it on certain days, we can go anytime it is open, which is good, though I think they are a bit strict about tripods.

  4. Leanne, I’m stunned! these are glorious. yours is creative ART!
and, to be Honest…. it may not be feasible, but I’m loving this format of presenting these images this time. so sharp, near, clear. large. all just Right There. This is a big WOW!

    1. Thank you Debi, that is lovely of you to say.
I think when there aren’t too many images, and there usually aren’t, that this format is fine and it was perhaps easier for me to do as well.

    1. It probably does as the photos aren’t reduced to a small square. If you are only getting about 20, it might be worth considering as a new ‘standard’.

  5. Great selection, again. BIG thank you for featuring my image. And, what a shame anyone should remove any books from anywhere – you dealt with the light really well – must have been huge different between the top windows and the base.

    1. You’re welcome Maxine thanks for contributing. I think all the books were put into another part of the library, they used to share the site with the Museum, but it was moved so the library had a major redevelopment and they gained lots more space. They also don’t let the public into where the books are stored otherwise things could get very messy. It was a bit, but it was a great challenge. Thanks Maxine.

  6. 🙂 Great gallery! Especially like the choir and the hanging teacup..
And what a wonderful library Leanne! So huge in size!

  7. I agree with Laura. As I was scrolling down through the photos I thought nearly every one was a very engaging and unique image. Congratulations to everyone, especially you, Leanne, for hosting and for your own contributions. Beautiful post.

    1. I wonder if it is also because I showed the photos differently this time, maybe I should stick with this way, it was easy enough. Thank you Ardysez, it is still fun doing it.
