MM 4-35: Monochrome Madness

That was an interesting week, MM last week. It was good to hear how many of you still enjoy it, but I have to admit, with only 13 people sending images, I still have to question whether it is worth it. At the moment my decision is to stick with it here, but also offer to people an opportunity to put up their own photos in the group on Facebook.

We need a new theme for next month, the first one anyway. Going though my list, what about Graffiti? That can also be street art, and as always, your interpretation.

This was taken the Nikon D850, the one I had on loan, before I got my own. It is the lighthouse at Cape Otway. It is a rather majestic one, and sits up and straight and tall. I did this as a straight black and white, but then thought perhaps it was missing something, so I put a blue tone over the image. Still not sure if it works, but there it is.

Don’t forget all the instructions on how to enter your own images are at the bottom of the post.  If you have entered an image then please remember to check your image in the gallery, scroll down and see if anyone has left you any comments.

Monochrome Madness each week and if you wish to participate and submit an image here is how you do it:-

  • You must email me the image you want to include and if you have a blog or website, or somewhere else, please include the link. My email address is
  • The image size should be low res, so the largest side should be 1000 pixels or less.
  • Please insert either your name or your blogs name in the file name.
  • Remember I am on Australian time, so with GMT I am +11 hours at the moment, I publish my post on Thursday morning.
  • If you need more help with sending images, and get confused about time zones, etc, well, there is a great website called The World Clock, if you go to that and look at Melbourne time, if it’s before 6pm on Tuesday evening, then you can still send me images.  If it’s after that time, you can send me an image, but it will be set aside for the following week.
  • Remember to include a link to your blog or website.
  • Please remember to resize your images, it is fairly simply, you just need to go into any editing software and usually under Image you will find, resize, scale, or image size, something like that and you can resize your image there. Change the dimensions to pixels and make the longest side 1000 pixels or smaller, hit return, and for most types of software that should change the other side automatically as well. Just remember to save it with a different name so you know it is the smaller version.  If you have any problems, please contact me, I don’t mind helping out.

Please note you don’t have to be a WordPress blogger to be in this challenge, you can have a link to a Facebook page, a Flickr page, anywhere really, or no link.  We just want to encourage people to do monochrome images, just for the madness of it. Just to let you know also, that as soon as the challenge is published, all emails and images you have sent me are deleted from my computer.

  1. I’m surprised there are still so few submissions this week. I figured it’d pick up after last week.

A possible suggestion: I’ve entertained the idea of providing some critiques on a randomly-selected submitted photo… but I don’t have the kind of following you have 🙂 Perhaps you could offer something similar, and that’d entice people to submit and visit. I’d leave it optional; people could submit without entering the pool for feedback. But others could indicate a desire for that when they submit the photo, and you could pick one each week.

If you’re willing, of course.. I understand that would entail a bit more work for you. However, that would circle back to the “photographer’s mentor” idea and do something for the folks who were complaining about the lack of comments.

    Just an idea 🙂

    1. You and me both Brianna, I thought it would too, but it didn’t.

I don’t want to do critiques here, I am doing them in the facebook group, I think that is enough. Also, I didn’t want to do them here because I thought that would frighten people away even more. I would encourage people who want me to critique their work to go there to the group for The Photographer’s Mentor.

We will see what happens with time. Thanks Brianna.

  2. I would be interested to see a graffiti or street art theme. Thanks for hosting these. I like the blue overtone on the lighthouse.

  3. Always a pleasure to see the MM posts Leanne. Kudos to you for keeping it going. Wishing you an inspiring and fruitful 2018!

    1. Thank you Jane, I guess time will tell what happens. The group on FB has a lot more images, sadly. YOu have a fabulous year too.
