I can’t lie, this was one of my favourite experiences while I was in the USA. It turns out I love being on the water, not to be confused with being in it. I just love being on a boat sailing and the rougher the water the more I like it. Sadly not something I can really do much of, or rather not at all. Still, I really wanted to show these again.
Last Friday I spent the day with my brother in law Andrew. He took me to some great places and I got to experience some new things, but the thing that was the highlight for me was the sailing. He is co owner of a boat, the Drop Beer.
There she is already to take out. I’d never been sailing before so it was going to be interesting, one to see if I would like it, and two would I get sea sick. I’m happy to report that I didn’t get sick, and I loved it.
I tried taking photos of the sailing, but what I wasn’t expecting how hard it would be to take photos. I managed some of the sailing bit and some of the landscape around the water.
The scenes where we went were very industrial, but it was a day of that. I love industrial stuff there is something about it, and I don’t mind photos of it.
Sailing was great but very wet, I got soaked. Andrew asked me if I wanted the camera to get wet and I said no, so he grabbed it and put it down below for me. I swear two minutes after that we hit a big wave and I got really wet. I mean really wet, right through.I think it added to the experience. It was very windy so the sea was very choppy. We got splashed over and over.
We were going to stay out and have a light dinner, but I was getting really cold so we went to the yacht club which had a fire instead. So instead of waiting for the sunset on the boat we watched it from the club.
I took this with my phone. I had put my camera in the car, so when I took this I ran to the car, but most of it had gone by then. I do have one to show you that I took with the D750, but will put it in the gallery.
It was a lovely way to spend the afternoon and I really had a lot of fun. I have a few more photos for you now.
What a wonderful adventure! Remarkable photos, Leanne!
Thank you Amy, it was a great adventure.
A boat for wildlife photography can’t be beat. Especially a Pelicans. Once you figure out the swells and motion it’s like being in a bird blind. Your style worked perfect for these too.
That’s true, you can get some great shots, though harder to keep the camera still. Thank you so much Ted.
Wow, these photos are beautiful. Leanne! I love sailing and raced small sailboats on the lake I grew up on in Michigan. I would love to sail on that boat!
Thank you John, how lucky, I was never around boats growing up, not a lot of water, lol. It was amazing, I would love to do it again.
Wow, it’s 10:15 PM Monday night here. I had a fantastic childhood… 😍
It is almost dinner time here, almost 5.30 pm on Tuesday. Mine had moments, but overall it was something I never wanted to repeat or go back, it wasn’t so great.
Wow, is that 19 hours difference? 😮
Yeah, that sounds about right.
Wow, it’s 12:30AM. G’ night.
That is late John, go to sleep. It is 8pm here and Tuesday is almost over.
I just woke up. 😂
When you woke up I was sound asleep, at least I think I was. 😂🤣😂
That’s gotta be a 11 or 12 hour difference.
According to the world clock you are 19 hours behind us at the moment. We are in daylight savings time so an hour ahead of normal.
Why do you use DST too? It serves NO purpose. 19 hours, wow!
We have been doing for as long as I can remember. Apparently it was so people could have daylight to go to the beach and stuff at the end of the day. So the sun doesn’t go down until between 8.30 and 9, whereas it would be almost dark by 7.30 and dark by 8pm. It just gives people more daylight at the end of the day. Though when I was growing up it was only for summer, so 3 months, now it goes for 6 months. Crazy.
Though I looked it up and you have it, but it goes for a lot longer than ours.
I see, it now gets almost dark here at 4:30 or 4:45 which is so ridiculous!
In winter it gets dark here about 5.30. Though I was going to say about daylight savings, in the mornings if we didn’t have it would start getting light about 4.30 in the morning, that is too early, so would prefer more light at the end of the day. When we were living in Denmark I had a hard time with winter because it would start getting dark at 3 in the afternoon, it used to confuse me all the time.
Wow, three PM and darkness approaches? No thanks. It seems like Australia needs DST more than the US does, but that’s just one guys opinion.
No, the 3 pm is Denmark, not here.
The photo of the sail is great! And you took some great industrial photos, too. Glad you had such a good time.
I love that one too Lois. Thank you so much Lois, I really did, I would love to do more, but sadly I don’t know anyone here with a boat.
glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Beth.
What fun Leanne! It looks like quite an adventure. I’ve never been on a sail boat; only on a deep sea fishing boat. Lovely images.
It was fun Anne. I loved it. I have only been on one about 3 times, and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again, it was amazing. Thank you Anne.
