Silent Sunday – Remembering Cradle Mountain

Silent Sunday - Remembering Cradle Mountain

Remembering Cradle Mountain for Silent Sunday makes me think about my trip there over 3 years ago. It was the first day of my trip with my friend Sandra.

Silent Sunday – Remembering Cradle Mountain

Yep, the conditions weren’t great, actually, they were crap. I think the only thing that made it good was the adrenaline from being there and our first day. We were probably happy from lack of sleep. We had taken the boat to Tassie and it was overnight. Yeah, we didn’t get a lot of sleep.

As soon as we arrived there we knew we weren’t going to get the conditions that would create incredible images. That is that problem with travelling. You can’t guarantee the weather. Wouldn’t it be incredible if you could? Demand those amazing conditions to get the photos you want.

I do remember that we had a great time walking around Dove Lake. We seemed to go in the opposite direction to everyone else, but we are glad we did. There was a bit of rocky hill bit and we did it first. So happy we did. The rest of the walk was fantastic.

So we didn’t get good photographic conditions, but we still had a good time there.

Not all of these are from Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake. The first 4 were taken on the trip there.

  1. Beautiful pictures! It turns out the best thing to do is just embrace the conditions as they are and take it as a challenge! I love the results:-)

  2. That’s pretty much what it was like the day we visited Cradle Mountain. It was so cold. But I think the darkened skies and low cloud create a beautiful mood for photography.

    1. I think it is common weather there. It is good for mood, but I really wanted to get that still water and reflections. I am hoping to go back another day, but spend a few days there. Thanks Carol.
