I feel like I keep going on about this, but boy, has it been windy here. Trying to do any macro work has been impossible. I know I have talked about this before, and last week I talked about using my tripod to help me. It is amazing how much better it is when using it. I’ve got to the stage where I’m heading outside with the camera and tripod nearly every day.
I think using a tripod is one of the things that many photographers don’t like using. They find them cumbersome, but really the more you use it the quicker you get with it. For example, with my tripod Bucky, I have removed the centre column so I can get the camera almost on the ground. This allows me to get photos that I wouldn’t be able to get otherwise because there is not enough room for me to lie down to get those shots. Let’s face it, I’m getting too old to be lying down on the ground to take photos now, plus getting up is hella hard on the knees. Getting old really sucks at times.
The more I do it, the more I love it. I get much better results and far less blurry photos. I am going to make it a point this spring and summer to keep using the tripod to see what I can get. I hope you will be here with me to see what I get.
Funny but I have only just realised they are all of a similar colour. Done completely by accident.
Beautiful flower shots – I especially love the bluebells and tulip! I get why you find a tripod so useful but I wouldn’t feel able to carry one around so unless I’m taking photos in my small back garden there would be no point in having one 😀
I don’t travel far, so I like taking my tripod, I would rather have it with me in case I do need it. I would hate to miss a shot because I don’t. Then again, I also take one when I travel, it is a smaller and lighter one, but does the job most of the time. Thank you Sarah.
Haha same sentiment here about kneeling and standing up. Great photos Leanne…love the colours.
Thank you Teresa, it really sucks getting old.
I know what you mean, Leanne.
I think we’ve had 2-3 no wind or low wind days in the last 2 months in Melbourne. Many times I’ve thought the 2 trees in front of my balcony were going to break as the wind bent them over so far. Today is very low wind. Almost none. I guees you would get different weather to my western side of Melbourne.
I haven’t taken my tripod out for about 11-12 years. It has a central pole which allows you to extend all the legs to get down to 7-8″ off the ground. But I can’t kneel or squat down low, let alone sit or lie on the ground these days. If I’d known how limiting a hip replacement was going to be, I might not have had it done, despite the severe pain when walking. My tripod is a heavy tripod. I do have a light travel tripod, but the wind in Melbourne these days would blow it over.
I love your blue flowers. What co-incidence that they’re all the same colour.
How’s your garden faring in this wind?
The wind is mad, so crazy. I don’t blame you for being worried about the trees in front of you. I would be too.
I took the centre pole out of my tripod, well in Bucky I did. So I can get very close to the ground with it. I like that I can use the back of the camera to help me compose my image, because I am not getting down on the ground, that’s for sure.
I agree about the wind and tripods. I took a trip down to Heronswood yesterday in Dromana, and we also went to safety beach, but it was too windy to do any long exposures. I just want to know when it will end.
Thank you Vicki, so far my garden is doing okay. I have lots of trees around the fences so I think that helps quite a bit.
I love how you named your tripod. Great photos!!
It is fun, but sadly I can’t take the credit, 3 Legged Thing give all their tripods names, so I have Bucky, Winston, Brian, and my first one was Billy.
These are wonderful, Leanne!
Thank you Sue.
