Monochrome Madness – The city at night

Hey everyone, how are you all? I’ve been out in the garden again this week. Taking advantage of the rain free days. It is nice to be out there again. Today I started some seedlings in trays, getting tomatoes, capsicums and chillis ready to go for this summer. They are on a heat mat and have a grow light over them, so let’s hope I have some success there.

This image I took with my Fujifilm X-S10 and the Tamron 11-20mm lens. I have it on loan from Tamron Australia at the moment. It is a really nice 2.8 lens, so fast. I don’t know how much it is, but will find out all the information for you soon.

I spent an afternoon and early evening in the city recently with it and we did some night photos along the river. I was using my 3 Legged Thing tripod as well. I also gave the exposure more time to get the best lights.

Normally I would show an image like this in colour, but I wondered what it would look like in monochrome. I mean do you miss all the colours of the lights? Do you think the monochrome detracts from what it would normally be? I’m curious to hear your thoughts. You will find out mine in the comments.

    1. That is true, though I do like the hue you get from the lights. It is interesting to hear what everyone thinks of the monochrome. Thank you RJ.

  1. I’ve never been able to decide. I think — after a lot of experimentation — that black & white seems to grab the eye better, but if the ground is wet, the reflections of lights is amazing.

    1. I have a hard time trying to decide as well Marilyn. I don’t know, I usually prefer night shots of the city in colour, but it is interesting to see it in monochrome. Thank you Marilyn.

  2. I love the photo, Leanne! I admire your photographic skills, so good! Summer? It’s summer here and a high of 105F is up for today, a totally normal temperature for here.
