As many of you know, when I was in Tasmania recently, I spent quite a bit of time taking photos with my newly converted infrared camera. It was a great way to test it out and see what would work with it and what wouldn’t. It does give images a surreal look and I really like it.

Before we left for Tasmania we knew we had two days to spend in Port Arthur. We had planned all along to go to the Port Arthur Historical Site, but that still left a day with nothing to do. While researching things to do in Port Arthur we found information on the Tasman Island boat cruise run by Pennicott Wilderness Journeys. It wasn’t the first boat cruise I have done with them, last year I did one around Bruny Island which was fantastic. We booked in to do the cruise the first full day we were in Port Arthur. So glad we did as the following day rained on and off all day.

You must have guessed that there would be more posts on this, especially as I learn more about what I’m doing. I’ve been doing more research and playing in Photoshop to see what I can do. Part of the reason I chose the filter for the sensor that I did, was that I was meant to be able to get some colour into the images. As it turns out, it hasn’t been as easy as I thought. I have spent all afternoon on the computer trying to see what I could find out.

The other day I mentioned that I have a loan of the Canon 5D Mark IV and the 16-35mm 2.8 lens. I am trying them out with long exposures to see what I think. I am always on the look out for new gear to see what I can do with it, and, of course, I am looking around for a new camera to do long exposure photography with.

Camera gear is important if you want to take photos, and over the years you change with what you are taking photos off, along with how. I thought it might be fun to take a look at what gear I think I need for what I do now. Let’s say all my gear was stolen and I had to start again, what would I get. I don’t think I would end up with as much.

It is true, I do need a new camera. I have loved my Nikon D800, but when it comes to long exposures it kinda sucks. Since most of the work I do is that, then how do I do them when I have so many problems with the final result?
