A poppy from Alowyn Gardens. Taking photos of it last week and watching the bees having a great time.
Yesterday, I had a trip to Alowyn Gardens. I think it is one of the best places to test lenses for macro photography. Right now there are flowers everywhere. It was fantastic to see it all.
As I’ve said previously, I’m testing the Lensbaby Velvet 85 which I’ve been loaned by Lensbaby. I knew that Alowyn Gardens would be a great place to test it out. Up until now I’ve really only tried it out in my garden and the city. I loved it in the city, but I have struggled with my garden. I have to say I was really impressed with it today. I really enjoyed using it there. I liked how it was a bit easier to photograph flowers that were a bit further away.
I did take the Velvet 56 with me, and I knew if I wasn’t happy with the 85 I would swap to it, but I didn’t. I didn’t feel the need to do that. I think the Velvet 85 would be a great lens for me when it comes to the flowers.
I have two images for you now, one was taken with 56 and the other with the 85.
Only one flower today, I’m afraid I’ve been a bit slack with the macros this week. I’ve been busy and I have the Canon 5D4 I need to play with before it goes back. However, spring is almost here and flowers are starting to appear everywhere, so I will be back getting heaps again soon.
Last weekend I showed you some photos of the grounds at Alowyn Gardens and I said I would show you some of the flowers. I forgot until Julie mentioned it, so thought I should do some. I haven’t done many, if I’m honest a lot of the flowers were past it, and you could tell winter was starting to set in. I do love winter, but it isn’t a good time for flower macro photography.
This afternoon a friend picked me up so we could go to Alowyn Gardens in Yarra Glen for some macro photography. I am still trying out the Samyang 100mm lens and thought it would be a great opportunity to use it.
There were a lot of flowers out, so it ended up being a quick trip, but that didn’t matter. I still got some lovely shots, have coffee and a catch up with Suzzanna.
This last week has seen me out and about a bit, and this morning was no different. I went to Alowyn Gardens in Yarra Glen, really for my weekend wanderings. It is a display garden and nursery, plus a great place for photography.
I love going there for macro photography and every time I go, there is something different flowering. It is fantastic, the garden I wish I had.
It is open every day from 10am to 5pm. There is an entry fee of $10 to go into the gardens.
There is also a cafe where you can get a coffee and cake after you have looked around, or before.
Don’t forget to check out the nursery to see what you might bring home for your own garden.
It is a very popular place for weddings and on weekends they are often getting ready for them.

I have some photos from the gardens this morning. I was experimenting with the Lensbaby Velvet 56. I have been taking macro shots with it for a while now, and today I wanted to try some other things. It was nice to do some things where the focus wasn’t totally on the flowers. I’m sure you will love seeing the gardens and what is there.
The weeks do fly by, and today I will be doing the Monochrome Madness post, so this is a good post to do. These are the image that have been up on Instagram this past week. Many city ones, I spent the morning in their the other day. I need to spend more time in there.
So here are the photos and at the bottom I might add some other photos.
I think many of you know that I actually have two Instagram pages, the above one and the one I have for my macro photography. If you want to follow it, it is called Leanne’s macro work. Quite a few of the images were taken with the Lensbaby Velvet 56 at Alowyn Gardens. I now have one of my own and I am loving it. The last four were taken with it.
